Hidden in the green foothills outside Arusha, Lake Duluti is a peaceful crater lake surrounded by forest. Follow the shaded trail around the shoreline with a local guide, discover its rich birdlife and stop at two viewpoints offering beautiful views of Mount Meru and, on clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro. Alternatively, take to the calm waters by canoe and experience the forested crater lake from a completely different perspective. Late afternoon is especially magical, when the setting sun reflects across the water and the lake’s birdlife becomes particularly active. It is a wonderful experience for bird lovers and photographers, with beautiful opportunities to capture the changing light, reflections and birds from the canoe. Forest Trails, Hidden Gorges & Waterfall Adventures
Leave the streets of Arusha behind and follow a local guide into the green foothills of Mount Meru. The trail leads through cultivated land and lush forest before descending into a hidden gorge. Along the way, you cross shallow streams, walk over rocky ground and may even get your feet wet before the Napuru Waterfall finally appears between the steep, green walls. Cool mist fills the air as the water tumbles into the gorge — a refreshing reward for a hike that feels surprisingly remote despite being so close to the city.
