Our Story

Some journeys change the places you visit. Others change your life.

Our story began in February 2019, during a 16-day journey through Tanzania. What started as guide and traveller soon became something much more.

While travelling through the Serengeti, we discovered an incredible coincidence—we were both celebrating our 40th birthday on exactly the same day, February 5th. It was a moment we'll never forget—and one that marked the beginning of a shared journey.

Together, we bring more than three decades of experience in the travel industry.

Daniel has been working as a professional safari guide since 2009, sharing his deep knowledge of Tanzania's wildlife, landscapes and cultures with travellers from around the world.

Katja is originally from Germany and has worked in tourism since 2005 as a qualified travel consultant and tourism specialist, specialising in African travel. In September 2025, she made Tanzania her home, bringing together years of professional experience with everyday life in the country she now calls home.

In July 2026, we turned our shared dream into reality and founded Rooted & Wild Tanzania Tours Limited.

We created Rooted & Wild because we believe a truly unforgettable journey is about more than checking animals off a list. It's about meeting people, understanding traditions, discovering everyday life and experiencing the places that make Tanzania so extraordinary.

Our aim is to combine exceptional wildlife with authentic cultural experiences—creating journeys that are personal, thoughtfully designed and deeply connected to the people and places we love.
